Problem: Engine does not crank in Park or Neutral
I turn the key to start and the radio, fan do not turn on.
Under dash fuses are okay.
Headlights and interior lights are fine.

I don't think this is related, but removed the ECM and wiring on Saturday.
The ECM behind the kick panel had 4 white plugs that I disconnected.
Nothing under the hood was connected, just bundled.
I only dealt with the wires passing through 1 grommet on the lower firewall, not the heater/AC wire bundle.
Drove on Saturday night through today.
Had a problem on Monday. Car cranked, but would not start.
I disconnected the HEI tach wire and it ran. I've reconnected the wire
and my tach reads about 2,500 rpm higher than it should when I should be turning at 2,000 rpm when accelerating it reads about 4,500.
Had not done anything with timing, distributor etc.

Finally, the complete HEI was replaced about 2 months ago.
Any suggestions on where to look?

if the fan/radio/gauges dont work in the run position?? (they will not work in start position)
check if you have power to the ign switch on the big red wires,,if no?? check the fusable links at the starter..
if yes?? check the ign switch,, see if you have power on the purple wire in the start position..
if yes?? check the neutral safety switch or wiring to the starter..

heres a diagram

Ignition Switch - My summertime trip under the dash...

First, thanks for the info regarding where to start and it proved to be connector feeding the ignition switch.
I wiggled it around and it fired, then a little more of the same then nothing, so I disconnected the battery and cleaned connectors with CRC contact cleaner and put on a thin coat of dielectric grease. It cranked every time regardless of how the connector was twisted, so I think it's fixed. Appreciate your help as usual! Also, the high reading tach problem went away.
