As a temporary fix for the leak try some copperseal or alumaseal in the coolant and then see if the white smoke or vapor goes away,if it does you've found the culprit most likely(bad heater core).

I had the same issue on my '79 when I replaced the heater hose to and from the heater core.
When the motor got warm, white smoke started to come up the defroster vent.
I tightened the hose more, and what'd ya know, it fixed it.

Your heater hose could have a leak also.

Sounds like your heater core is leaking. The white smoke is probably vapor from the anti freeze. Eventually it will fog your windshield with a film and start leaking out where it is visible. You may smell a maple type smell. If you change the heater core you should go ahead and change the heater hoses as well.
