Ok my 86 el camino driver door will not shut I got the door to shut ONCE when i used screwdriver and turned the hook thing in the door that catches the striker
I Dont know i turned it a few times with a screwdriver and the door shut then open and would not shut again but A doorROD is also removed but i dont know how to put it back in the door.
This company has just about, any clips.screws.or retainers that any of us would need for our El camino's look it over,i have bought from them and there shipping is fast !
OK just so you know, the rods to outside door lock, inside door handle and outside door handle have nothing to do with what you are describing. If that half-moon piece is falling back into the locked postion , check for a broken spring. You can remove all the locks and handles and the door will still lock.
When I paint one of these, all the outside trim is off. That includes door handles, lock cylinders, mirrors, moldings, everything. I use a piece of MIG wire inserted through the lower rear drain hole and up to the latch. I twist the wire around the little arm that held the rod for the outside handle. That's how I open and close the door to paint.
And again GO TO YOUR LOCAL AUTO BODY & PAINT SUPPLY FOR CLIPS!!!
I had a latch go bad on me about a year ago. You might have to pick up a replacement at the junkyard. Should be easy to find.
