Got a couple of questions.

The tach in the 86 was reading high before my 350 engine swap. Now, it is reading even higher it seems like.

Do I need to have the tach calibrated or what?

thanks

That could be a possibility? I have changed out several gage pods using the best physical appearance, but never thought about the a 6 being different from an 8. One of my donor cars was a 6......is there a part number to look for on the back? or what????

thanks

These tachometers go bad over time. They will read high, just as yours does. Your best bet is to take it out and check it against a reference. Here's the thread that explains how to fix it: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?t=51305

I've calibrated several of these before. It's also possible to change one from V8 to V6 and vice versa. If you send me one, I'd be happy to calibrate it for you. No charge, just include return shipping.

Here's a picture from my first repair:
