I am live with my netbook and phone trying to adjust my timing.

86 elky
stock 305 no computer
quadra 4b elect choke
what is a good starting point.
researching now how to read the little arrows
getting flashlight

will keep checking on this post every 5

Each point and each valley = 2 degrees. So it is 4 degrees from point to point if that makes any sense. Start at about 8.

one big peak on drivers side and 3 little ones to the passenger side.. it's set at the second peak.... wait.. is that 4 degrees?

well i'm done for the night it's a bit shakey but i can't go any further the cord got a bit to close to the manifold.... gotta repair it tomorrow

took it out for a spin, has a different spark knock sound. but wow feels way more stouter... makes the fan belts squeal now.. tomorrow i retension them. will try to tweak it in some more tomorrow evening after i fix the melted cord.

If you're working on a non-computer carb and distributor, normal for the Chevy smallblock is about 12 degrees at idle, vacuum advance disconnected and vacuum port plugged. Total advance should be about 35 degrees, all in by about 2500 rpm, again vacuum advance disconnected and plugged.

But different cars like it different, sometimes.
