This is what I got for my 1987 EC; vin 3GCCW80H2HS902606...
3-Made in Mexico
G-General Motors
C-Chevrolet Truck
C-Hydraulic brake system – GVW 4001-5000

H-V-8, 305cid
2-Check Digit = 4 (after doing the math right...hopefully!!!!)
H-1987

So what does the Check Digit actually mean???

So my EC was the 902,606 1987 model built out of how many????

Like to understand more about it history wise. So any and all replies are welcomed.

Thanks,
Bryan

Trivia:
Euclid, OH also built 1964 El Camino bodies for delivery to Baltimore & KC and in 1965 for Atlanta & KC and probably Baltimore but I don't have any examples of a trim tag. KC also supplied some of their bodies but most examples I have do have Euclid, OH tags with KC as the destination.

:cool:
My 64 was built in Euclid, OH (EP) and was finished in Baltimore. PM me if you would a pic to give as an example

There is nothing in the COWL tag that documents it is an SS, but here is what you can tell from the COWL tag:
72 = 1972
13680 = el Camino Custom
B = Baltimore Plant
735220 = Fisher Body Sequence/Production Number
704 = el Camino Black Interior
A52 = Bench Seat
57 = Exterior Paint Golden Brown Metallic
The one that you show with ???????? is the build date.

From the VIN code, you show the 5th digit as U which means it came with a 402 BBC

To tell more you need the info from the engine block, trans, and rear. Post some pic's so we can see what it looks like!

The only place that will document the option of SS is the Build Sheet.

Is there any way to tell if an El Camino had tinted glass by the VIN number?
not in the VIN,
maybe?? it could be part of another package on later years and be part of the trim tag..

usually you need the Build Sheet or Window Sticker..
mid 80's, maybe 85 and up, got the glove-box sticker with RPO codes..
try this
