Been collecting parts. Need tips on the fuel line setup, fuel block, lines, etc., Pictures would help, and source for fuel block, lines. If there is a kit, I'm interested.
And any general setup advice, learned, etc.



So far I have the carbs, conversion kit for the front and back carbs, and manifold. Researched all the rest I need, gtg.

I'm very much interested in this too. Nothing like opening the hood and seeing those three little pots under there. It has a nice nostalgic look.. I'd like to run Stromberg's but I don't think they are big enough for a 454 or a 350 for that matter... Holleys are also a possibility.. Chevy and Mopar used the Holleys..

Ill most likely have around 1k in it by the time I am done. I'm in the car cheap so it doesn't matter to me. And I don't plan on selling the setup with the car.



I think you are right, not enough for 454. If I had a 454 Id probably look at a dual 4bbl setup. I bet that can get you all the fuel you need. LOL

But it all depends on what you are trying to achieve. If HP, then this 3/2 system is not the way to go. I'm not after HP. I'm doing it simply for the "cool" factor. No other reason. In fact I'd like to have the peak power in my 350 from 600-3000rpm. I'll change the cam later to a high torque, off road type, because I have no idea what is in it. Right now there is a Q-jet with a 4.11 gear, so I don't really know what I have. It clearly gets out of its on way but that 4.11 is not staying. 3500rpm at 55mph. Hardly driveable except to 7/11. Bought car used, obviously, and guy didn't know what is in it either.


Here's what I've bought so far. 3 Rochesters, conversion kit for the front and back carbs/kit for center, with linkage, and just ordered the Edlebrock manifold.
There is a "conversion" type thing that will take the 3 carbs and then bolt onto your existing 4bbl, but that isn't the nostalgic I want. Expensive too. I'm after the old looking setups that came in the late 50's/60/s.



So right now I am just looking for a fuel setup and someone that has the whole setup. Need some type of choke too. Not really wanting a cable.

For me, my plan is very nostalgic dual quad setup....as in stock dual WCFBs on Tri-Fives and mid '50s thru early '60s Corvettes. :rockon: :banana:

JJ, yeah, I'm headed in that direction. I just have a single slipper back there now so before the 3/2 carbs, I'll change to a posi and maybe a 3.73 gear. Not sure on gear yet, but posi is sure.
It will be driveable then.


OD trans is expensive, when you already have a good operable trans, and no mechanical reason to swap out, but like I said, I'm in cheap and can afford to spend a bit down the line. Must dominate the on ramps, AND cruise all day at 60-65mph.

Speedway Motors OR Yogis,Inc both have a lot of "old school" stuff. Either may have the bits & pieces you need.

While they carry parts, I find that the cust. reps don't really know how to use them. They don't know what goes with what. I pretty much would be guessing what parts to buy.
I'd like to find someone that has the system. Thanks

With the standard rear end, both back wheels propel the car, its just when one starts spinning all the power goes to the spinning wheel... If you can keep the wheels from spinning, the standard rear end is actually better at getting the car underway since there are no slipping clutches..

Back when i first started wrenching, late 70's, one of the first things the veteran mechanics taught me was to replace parts as you fix other things. Example, you replace timing chain, you replace the water pump. No extra labor involved. I use that theory of wrenching to this day.



So in the case of my rear axle, the goal is to replace the gear ratio. Has to be done, no choice. To go from a 4.11 to a 3x series gear, I have to replace the carrier. And I'll replace the bearings/shims. Its a whole kit. So while its all apart, and I'm touching every piece in there, I'll switch to posi.

If all I had to do was switch the gear, you are right, I would just leave the single wheel spinning. But to get the "entire", resale customer market, including the kids that want to do burnouts, I'll throw the posi in.

I considered a locker because its cheap. But that will alienate some resale customers. No one will complain that there is a posi in it.

Whatever I sell it for in the future, it will be worth the posi$ added to the sale price. Labor is the same.
Its the way I see it.

Have yo considered the tripower fuel injection set ups they are selling? I'm pretty sure they have been thru the tuning issues (computer vs trial and error) and the parts. It looks similar enough for the Cool factor too

The older I get, the less I want fuel injection. I have fought fuel injection systems many times and am sick of them. Never fixed the one on my 82 Elcam and finally converted, after $$$$$. Lost 1000's on my Blazer with incorrect diags and tows.
IMO, too many items that can fail and you cant fix on the side of the road. If that fuel pump fails, you cant drip gas from an 2litre Coke bottle and get home. I can probably overhaul a carb with a dime and an eyeglass repair kit from 7/11.



Yes, I would agree its a much more efficient method of engine control,but I'm sick of them.
Not to mention the $$$ I am in deep already on the carb setup.
But thanks. Maybe on another build,,,,,,, but I doubt it. LOL

I see no reason to remove the Quadrajet carburation system. The ones I had never gave me any trouble unless something got past the filter and got clogged in the needle and seat.. Usually a piece of hose that came loose while sliding the hose together after replacing the fuel filter..

Having three would look so cool..

The Q jet is a great carb. I like it better than the Holley's on other cars of mine.


The Tri Power setup is just for the cool factor at Cars and Coffee/other car shows. The El Camino is a car that people like to look at. They want to look inside and they want to look under the hood. They like to talk about mods on the cars.

Isn't that one of the many reasons why we own these cars, the conversations about the car?
Not to mention the 1/4 MPG I'll pick up when running on the 2bbl, :cool2:



Changing is for the same reason we put on nicer wheels and tires, custom air cleaner, chrome valve covers. The originality of the car was lost a long time ago. Its not a "restoration" candidate. There was nothing special about this car from the factory.

I had a 3/2 set up on a flathead ford years ago. Ran it as 1 primary 1 secondary and the last one blocked off, just for looks. Way easier to tune. Dont know if that would work on a 350 though

Now that is interesting. Saw a tuning tool the other day. Think I can tune pretty good by plug reading.

I agree with you 100% Gary.. I don't know why I posted that, sorry if I came across negative..

Personally, I really love seeing the three pots under the hood.. There's just something so cool about having trips.. I will have them someday myself... I would like to do three Strombergs but I don't think they are big enough for my 454 or a 350 for that matter...

I was into Pontiacs for years, so I know a little about trips. Most issues come from when one of the end carbs doesn't close all the way.. I also converted a few from vacuum to progressive linkage that I made myself, I don't like the vacuum set up...

One of the first things I do when tuning trips is take the vacuum advance out of the picture and make sure the end carbs are fully closed. Sometimes when I'm having a lot of trouble, I take the end carbs off and cover up the manifold to see how the car runs just on the center carb. Once you get that set up, your most of the way home.. All it takes is a slight dribble of leaking gas from one of the end carbs to throw everything out of whack..
