My '70 El Camino says to use Type A Auto Transmission Fluid for my TH400. I know they do not make that anymore and it was replaced with Dextron 3 or 6? I believe. Does anyone recommend a specific type of transmission fluid??

Thanks,

Jake

Little bit of necro thread but good conversation.
I have a T 350 in my Willys. It's about a stage two 500 hp. Extra clutches etc.
I've used Type F from the start and it works great. Shifts are firm and solid. It will " bark " the 16" Hoosiers pretty easily.

Type F is getting harder to get locally so I've gradually replaced it with the newer Dexton. I don't really notice any difference. It still leaks the same and operates the same.

Some of the local big hotrod guys are using John Deere tractor hydraulic oil. This seems ok too. I just can't get a good grip on switching. Not enough hard data.
