As the saying goes, there's no such thing as a dumb question ....With the master cylinder disconnected, should my brake pedal hold firm or go to the floor.
I'm sorry, wasn't very clear. The master cylinder is disconnected from the brake booster. Where should the pedal be, holding firm or go to the floor? Trying to determine if the booster is good or not.
To the floor the fluid is what stops your pedal, there is a piston in the booster that the pedal pushes and moves fluid, with no master no pedal stop. Some signs of a bad booster, a hissing noise as you hit the breaks and a very hard pedal with not much stop
Thank you, that helps and makes perfect sense. I'm puzzled because I'm on my second master cylinder, both bench bled and pedal still goes to the floor. I guess I'll disconnect the two master cylinder ports and see if my brake pedal holds firm. Thanks again
Plug your master and see if the pedal stops, it should not move too far at all. assuming no fluid on the ground and you have checked all brake wheel cylinders. look for a hole in the line someplace could be puddling in the frame rail.
