Bumper sagging on one side

239 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Vdv8
Just got this chrome bumper from someone on facebook. got the mounts from another bumper since the new one never came with any. i put the new bumper on and i couldn’t push the bumper up any higher and for some reason one side is lower than the other. I didn’t use any of the original hardware besides the mount since they all fell apart when i dissassembled everything. Any ideas?

are you referring to an obvious looking gap between bumper and tailgate? or does that side of the car sit lower? maybe a sagging shock or coil spring?

The bumper mounting plates are slotted for adjustment. Once the “impact absorbers” are mounted to the frame you can adjust the bumper itself up, down, side to side. Shims can be uses also to set the body to bumper gap.
First get on level ground. Check that the frame is level. Make sure tire size and pressure match and the body is level to the frame. This can also be shimmed to get things aligned. Finally set the bumper spacing and adjust as needed. Once locked in you can R&R the bumper at that 3 bolts to the frame flange and the 1 bolt at the end of the absorber.

The bumper is at the top of the slot on both sides. If i lowered the other side to match it would look ugly i feel, as both sides have a pretty big gap.
A second look at the pick, looks like the tail gate is lower on the left than the right. Every little bit counts. Level ground, frame, body, and LOAD will make a difference.
I like the bigger gaps personally. I’m at the dump a lot with mine though. If a piece of trash or rock fall in the tailgate and I don’t notice, it will try to bend the bumper when I go to close it. I’d just move the other side lower and see if it grows on you. Straight lines will always look better no matter how far off it is.
