Where would be a good place to get a wire harness to take a clarion CD player once wired to a dodge dakota 92' to put in a 1983 Elky? Does it jt take a general chevy wire harness supplied by the local best buy? or is this a special part most don't carry....

If you want to keep your original dash harness connectors intact you'll need something like this. Your current Elky radio connectors will plug into this connector. You'll then have to splice the wires into the CD player.

These connectors cost under $5 at many car audio stores.

Well put. :) Yes the wonderful world of car manufacturers...they don't have a standardized wiring code, so every make has a different way of doing things. Different wiring plugs/harnesses, wiring colors, ect. 'gotta love 'em! ;)

On the older cars though, you have to splice directly into the wiring...no kits there. Try installing a CD player in a '69 Chevelle that had no radio in it to start off with...that's a tad tricky.
