Retiring the El Camino from race duty and getting it ready for the street again. It will be mostly a weekend driver from here out and need to make a decision on a radiator fan. I'm keeping the electric fan in place for back-up. Question is which type of fan can I depend upon long term...clutch or flex? I will be adding a shroud. As Neil said clutch is quieter plus less painful. Those flex fans are SHARP!!!!

Clutch, for sure. I’ve tried every imaginable combination of cooling fans over the years and nothing has worked as well (and been as quiet) as an OEM clutch fan. You may even discover after time that you want to remove your electric backup fan(s).

You don't have a short water pump. that setup might pull the fan back out of the shroud a little too far.
What I have found works the best after years of fooling with big blocks and standard setups as well is
a 68 - 70 C30 clutch. Comes in earlier than later stuff and has the strength to turn a 7 blade fan with no problem.
