I've tried pretty hard to decode the #'s on the front of the block, passenger side deck. Probably haven't found the right site yet.
F0308GT It is supposed to be a 327. .308 is the month and date, but can't find GT
Any help would be great.

decoding engine numbers on my '67

F - flint, MI plant
03 - March
08 - 8th day of month
GT - ??
JT - V-8, 327ci, 250hp, 10.5:1 comp, 4bbl carb, man trans, ti(transistor ignition)

note - all the "G" prefixes are for 6 cylinders, all "J" prefixes are for V-8's.

my reference: Car & Parts magazine - Catalog of Chevelle, Malibu & El Camino ID numbers (1964-87) published 1993 by Amos Press. page 7.

That's pretty much what I came up with. But it is a very distinct GT. Miss stamped at the factory?
Thanks, Ralph:???:

GT was used on a 1966 283cid., powerglide, 195hp, 2bbl, Full size car.
Get the casting number off the bell housing flange to see if it backs that up.

I got that listing from "Nasty Z28" and it also showed A.I.R. That looked odd to me because I did not think the smog pumps came that early. I had not looked at the picture in your post until after I posted. There is the pump. Good chance you have the mini mouse.

Another comic book error - and that book is full of them. "Gx" suffixes (not prefixes) were used on quite a number of Chevrolet V8s as well as "Jx" suffix codes.
See http://chevellestuff.net/qd/engines/sb03_codes_d_hz.htm and http://chevellestuff.net/qd/engines/sb04_ia_zn.htm.

As well as 1967 283cid., Powerglide, 195hp, 2bbl, Full size car with A.I.R. A casting number would help narrow it down as would the casting date.

Try a dedicated Chevelle site such as http://chevellestuff.net. A.I.R. came on the scene in 1966 for Chevrolets.

Drivers side block reads 3849852
Passenger side, c46

That confirms my suspicion, My buddy tried to look up #'s while I was looking at it, and could not find any 327's with GT.
Kinda helps me decide whether or not it is going to gain CI.
