ok so to my not so surprised mind my elco refused to start today. my engine has been running rough for a while and well now i trace bay a few wires and find that 4 of my spark plug wires were loose on the distributor my question being can an engine run if its one cylinder down? how do the wire come loose too?

it will run with several off, not well but will run. they usually snap on real tight.if not fully seated in the first place they may come loose/off while running

ok. i mean running good with my tiny 267 is a relative term

loose plug wires will make it harder to start as the spark will have to jump further if at all.they can also damage other parts in the dist. they can eat up the carbon button in the cap as well as burn the rotor,coil ,module as well

so in other words it could i found it now

just check to be sure all wires are firmly seated and dont come off. you should hear them snap on when fully seated
