One way to check,is put it in gear,hold the brake and bring rpms up a little,do this in forward and reverse,most of the time if its a flex plate (flywheel) the sound will change,if its a rod again (most of the time) the sound will not change,

Yes it will make it knock...
Mine was cracked all.around and i still took it to belton last year and whooped up on everybody...cheers
this year was fsstest small.block 2yrs running...:beer:

That wasn't the brightest idea. You wouldn't be bragging if you broke it and damaged you trans pump and got towed home. :poke:

nope i wouldnt but i did so i am:poke:and plan on doing so next year as well:poke:so bring yours, i am a equal oppoturnity whoop ass man wnen it comes to putting trucks back in the pits and on the trailer so bring it :poke::beer::texas:

Saw this on another board for possible rattle cause:

Without being there, it's obviously hard to say, but here's what I have had rattle in the past, only in gear and not in park... Catalytic converter (seems the lower rpms of being in gear made the rattle, but it was bad), Loose bolt on the transmission dust cover, loose linkage for trans selector.

If you can't see it when the converter cover is pulled, then take the 3 converter bolts off, PUSH THE CONVERTER INTO THE TRANS, then start the motor. You will then find out without a doubt if it's the plate. It might still make a noise but it will definitely sound different if that's the problem. :beer:
