Is it a ticking similar to an exhaust leak? I was hoping that's all I had but after listening it sounds more like the flex plate is shot. It's louder under load forward or reverse than at idle.
Saw this on another board for possible rattle cause:
Without being there, it's obviously hard to say, but here's what I have had rattle in the past, only in gear and not in park... Catalytic converter (seems the lower rpms of being in gear made the rattle, but it was bad), Loose bolt on the transmission dust cover, loose linkage for trans selector.
Well I dodged a bullet and lucked out with just a header gasket leak. The lousy ones that came with the headers (Hedman) lasted just 3 years. The trusty 3' piece of heater hose aka stethescope located the problem.
