We have replaced the fuel gauge on the dash once and the sending unit in tank twice, ran a ground from sending unit to the battery but the gauge still registers 5/8 when the tank is full in my 83 El Camino. Does anyone else have this problem? And how did you fix it?

How many ohms resistance are the sender, and the gauge? Are they a matched set, intended to work together? If so, is something stopping the sender float from rising to the top of the tank? Does it stay on 5/8 until the fuel level goes below 5/8?

It lowers below the 5/8. I changed the gauge because it wasn’t working properly. I don’t know how to test the ohms.

:geek: One thing to think about. They offered two
differnt size tanks, a 17 gallon & 22 gallon.
maybe you have a 22 gallon tank and you are
putting in a sending unit for a 17. Just a thought.
