86 El Camino, 305 stock.hard to start. Turn on key, let the electric pump run for a short time. Push pedal to the floor, let up, half way down, turn the key to start. After a short while with no start have to pump the pedal several times then it starts. Goes to fast idle for up to 5 minutes or more. Any suggestion appreciated.

After reading all the replies on here I sympathize with the starting problems as I have been thru many of the same examples with my 87 Elko. That said, just a observation, those of us that are 50 yrs or older know how lucky we are to live in a world where cars now start and run instantly. I bought a brand new 79 Monte and remember it was troublesome starting. A engine warm up period was a common practice back in the day, especially in winter. Many a winter day the car would not start and I would have to pull the air cleaner and stick my comb in the choke to start it because it would flood easily, just the way it was back then. My next car was a brand new 83 Monte it started better but still was not perfect. That’s just how it was, we are so lucky to now have cars that start and run perfectly at a push of a button. Just saying.

Realfisher , Since you live in Lutz , do you happen to know an old friend and softball buddy of mine named Cliff Lund . Cliff grew up in Key West and was an excellent baseball player and all around good guy . He was a Physical Education Teacher and moved to Lutz years ago . Again , please come out and join us at our upcoming get together in Lakeland for the fabulous Lake Mirror Concourse and Car Show in October ;)
