I might have messed up the first thread or two when I was removing my timing gear. I used the wrong puller and I think that I messed up my first couple of threads. I am having trouble starting the harmonic balancer bolt. I do not want to force it at all. Any ideas of how to clean them up? would a thread chaser (not tap) be the possible solution? I just do not want to make it worse. The engine is still out of car.
Thanks

If you have the correct tap you should be able to clean the thread up and avoid further problems.Take care when starting the tap toi make sure it is threading staraight. Should be cake.If the threaded hole goes through the gear start from the back side to guide you in.
