Please excuse me if this has been answered. I've read through quite a few threads but nothing really pertaining to my exact question.

So, I'm trying to figure out how to get my Heat going. I have a 1983 conquista. It feels like it blows out hot air, yet the fan does not blow. I know the fan is functional because I pulled it and tested it. Everything worked fine, spun no problem. However when I put it back in the car and hook everything back up it doesn't do anything, whether I set it to blow low or high. Something else I noticed, when I accelerate I can hear the little flap inside the dash moving. I'm not sure the exact name of it. Also, and I'm not sure if it matters, I removed the air conditioner . Not sure if this would have anything to do with the heat not working as it didn't work when the air conditioner was still in the car. I suppose my question is, where do I start in trying to repair this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!

I'd suggest using a wiring diagram for your 1983 EC and back track from the blower fan along the wiring until you find 12 volt power. Then fix whatever is wrong at that point - perhaps a bad switch or control module.

By removing the air conditioner, you introduced a wildcard situation into solving the non-operation of your blower fan. You made this more difficult, not easier.

Check the wiring connector that is laying close to the intake on the passenger side. The RED wire is famous for loosing connection. It feeds the blower relay. Follow the wires from the resistor and relay back down toward the intake.

Check your ground at the motor-be sure it’s making real contact. Check for power (best with a multimeter) at the motor-you should have 12v on HI, and less (3,6,9?) on the lower speeds. If you get HI but nothing else, the resistor is bad. If you get everything but HI, it’s the relay. If you get nothing, work backwards until you find the problem, which very well may be a connector (as 464^ mentioned). I’ve not had that problem on my Camino but I did with a Trans Am once. It will look connected, but with the key on and the blower switch on HI try wiggling, pushing and pulling gently on it.

Here are the schematics from an 84 service manual. Your 83 should be pretty much the same.
Is the AC fuse still in? Check grounds. Look for the hot feed to the blower motor relay.
What all did you remove when you removed the AC?

Thanks for the diagrams. I didn't even think about the AC fuse. I'm going to check grounds and I'll check the hot wire. I just removed the AC compressor and components.

Should be a 4pole connector behind the alternator, right next to the tube from exhaust to the air cleaner. It'll have a big red, smaller green and a couple of black wires. IF the motor is older and is pulling too high an amperage, that connector will melt, or if it spent too long too close to that flex tube, it'll melt and you will lose connection to the blower motor.

I will check this tomorrow. Thank you!
