Looking for input from anyone having experience with decoding a GM Goodwrench crate engine. After doing research on multiple forums, am still trying to figure out the date of manufacture (PO said it was installed around 1990)..

The stamped tab below the alternator reads: 1M0318 2VP
The casting numbers in front of the bell housing read: 3GM 10066036 HECHO EN MEXICO 02

I called the tech hotline at GM HQ (866-454-4123) and was told that both Jegs and Summit do their own stamps so the stamped serial number on the tab is meaningless. Other than Made in Mexico, most of the information from the various sites conflicts with each other so I'm not sure who/what to believe.

Has anyone found a reliable source for decoding crate engines?
