I really don't know much about this, but I have heard of people doing it before and not having problems. It's my understanding that the ECM receives feedback from the carb to properly advance the distributor, so if the vacuum is doing the advancing and the carb is still getting information from the ECM, if I understand this correctly everything should still work fine. Then again in young and I could just be blowin' smoke :poke:

Do yo really get slower acceleration ? I havent payed attention, i am in your shoes too Donny, i got an hei dizzy, but debating on gettin a carb, but i get 10/11 mpg on a light foot, 9 mpg everyday driving. Last week i had my MPG down to 5.4 mpg, i was really a lead foot:nanawrench:

depending on the original set up on your original carb some will run fine but not as efficient as possible.if you have one that was set up on the lean side it may run ok ,but if it was set on the rich side and then disconnected it will run too rich. i put a 84 elco 305 in my wifes 78 nove carb and dist. with no computer and it ran great with poor fuel milage as the only complaint. about 12/14 mpg. when i replaced the carb and dist with non computer ones it ran about the same but milage went to 19 mpg. when the electric carbs are disconnectee the fuel solenoid goes full rich.because they dont have a vacuum operated power piston like a mechanical card does and its default position is full rich. you deside on how you want your car to run and how effieciently it runs

Sounds like it runs good to me. Is the transmission supposed to shift like that? Seemed like it was slipping into gear. I know you want to lay rubber but it ain't gonna happen with a 305 with a 200r tranny behind it. Headers will give you the torque to leave a bit rubber, but then again its still a 305. A stock 305 just isn't built to put out more than 160hp. You have true duals, but stock manifolds, stock 305,high gears and so on. What do you think it can do? Not much unless you start with headers or slap 350 heads on it. Just sayin.....

Donnie, what is it you want? Ya wanna screech out from the start and slowly lose acceleration, or do you want a slower start with a smooth acceleration? If you're not using the computer, have a non-computer carb/dizzy, then whut ya have is whut ya gots. Now, I'ze knows ya wanna be fastest at Belton, and dat mite be your problem. Me, I could care less about losing money on burning tires off, and burning more push-o-lene. Iffin' I can get better mpg, I'm estatic. That's why I changed out an Eiand intake and Edelbrock for a q-jet Performer RPM and a MM-built q-jet for what I have: 350, stock cam, headers. Your decision to make, but I don't think you'll ever get what you want out of a stock 305.:smileyb:

you can build a scary fast 305,come on boys and girls its a small block chevy. you rebuild it with flat top pistons and a good cam and they make well over 200 hp and will burn all the rubber you want as long as the rest of the drive train is set up correctly. they use the same crank as a 350 so the torque is there if built right. the 305 in my wifes 96 truck is 220 hp and will burn the tires at a drop of the throttle and get 19 mpg pulling a 6000 lb trailer with ease.so dont sell the 350 s little brother too short. you just have to build them right and will run and give you great milage

yeah with an open:poke:. I think i got an open or broken LSD that mostly spins the right wheel, a TH350/350, if it hit the gas it will spin and spin and spin until i take my foot off of the accelerator. not much difference, he can just put it in drive and when he romps on it he can get a squeel i am sure of it. especially with an open if that is what Donny has. My buddys 2001 Ranger 3.0 145hp can do a tiny squeel with one wheel.

I gotta see this...
When I first bought my Elky I couldn't lay rubber to save my life. I had 2.41 gears w/posi. Last summer I installed 3.73 gears and rebuilt my trans with all the good stuff. Now I can burn rubber and I get solid 2nd gear chirps and an occasional 3rd gear chirp! I was shocked myself!

you got a 305 and you get chips in 3rd?? NICE MAN!!!

I got 2.41 open i think and TH350 and i have heard a chirp in second only. 2.41's are kinda terrible but i can lay rubber like no other! do the peel outs get better with bigger gears? like if i upgraded to a 3.73 or 4.11 would i be able to peel out longer? cause i can already do easily 20 foot peel outs at 3,200rpms. i need posi lol! cause on everyday driving the tires spin (tire) lol!!!
