I am trying to find a good tranny to go along with my 350 I'm rebuilding for my '78.
It has a turbo350 in it right now but I am looking for a good manual, maybe with overdrive It isnt too much of a pretty penny.
Ex. I noticed the nv3500 (random tranny I saw online) it did whatever I wanted: 5 speed, overdrive, and alright ear ratios, and for under 1200$ according to eBay.
But Id really like a good decision, so I came here, for help.

I'm not sure what thread link 464elky posted but...
those truck ratios would be poorly chosen for your early 5th gen.

The V8 T5 ratios are pretty ideal as long as the rear axle ratio is matched to it.
You wouldn't want to run a V8 T5 with 2.29 gears but a 3.23 to 3.73 would work nicely.

/\ those are what the thread I linked to basically end up saying. The ratios are going to suck.
