The Hacker who sold me this car cacked up the rear end.
I'm thinking he hacked in a 1973-1977 rear with staggered shocks into the 1971..which does not have staggered setup.
Anyone have pics or restoration photos of their 68-72 rear end?
Any help appreciated.

If you can find the ID code stamped on the right side axle tube, you'll know when it was made. At least you'd have confirmation then.

But, the proper axle assemblies are still quite plentiful out there.

Here's a shot of mine (keep in mind that mine's a 12-bolt vs. your 10-bolt).

Thanks...I'll take some better photos when I get a chance.
Another buddy said my control arms are too long...maybe he used a mixture of parts.
Do they make adjustable control arms for the rear?
It would be great to correct what is there rather than replacing...but I'm no differential expert...yet.

The rear end is from 73 and later...problem is he installed it in a 1971.
That's the reason the rear end looks twisted.
I will most likely need to take out the current rear and and replace with the correct 1971..upgrading to a 12 bolt...while I'm at it.
I can use the 73 for a spare or upgrade the Elky when it arrives...all depends how easy it is to remove and reinstall.
I rarely have helpers...so it won't be fun.

Not a bad job really...got the rear end out today...what a hacker the previous owner was.:dontknow:
The code on the rear end is yz-1977 308 posi.
Any ideas what vehicle it came out of?
Malibu wagon?
I took off the cover, and removed the lubricant and had a look see.
pretty clean inside...not much of anything besides fluid.
whats the best way to clean the posi unit before refilling and adding a new cover?
Thanks.
