When I bought my 84 ELKY 305 v8 last October my my friend and mechanic recommended I get the quadrajet rebuilt. I did for $300.00. My mechanic said it was leaking some fuel and flooding the car when it sat for a while making the motor crank a while before it started. After the rebuild i can't say it started any better.
Last week my mechanic dropped in a rebuilt 35o with a cam (edelbrock RPM performer #7102) and edlelbrock performer intake manifold and ceramic headers.
She runs awesome and has great power. Also has a cool lope! However,it doesn't idle too well and when you turn the AC on it dies. I have turned up the idle speed and replaced the idle stop selenoid and that has helped some but it just doesn't seem to be able to carry any accesory load at idle. I have a stock th 250c tranny and converter.Still cranks a while to start and my mechanic said the carb is still leaking because with the motor warm he saw vapor coming out of the carb. I guess I need to take it to somebody more reputable for a carb rebuild.
Is this normal for a cam motor? Also, still working on the brake vacuum issue. I'm starting to think that for driveability I should have gone with a stock cam. Once the rpms are up she flat gets down to business. Any thoughts and help is appreciated.
Thanks,
RTT
