ok so im looking to buy a new 3.73 gear (from what i heard its the best to go with) and my question is before i do any thing how hard is this to do? will it take me too long?

Unless you have an overdrive tranny do not go any lower than 3.08. I just had a 3.08 posi installed. Took out a 2.41. Rpm's are a little high on the highway.

Easiest way to accomplish this is to find a Posi rear from a Monte Carlo SS. They came with 3.42 up until 86, then 3.73. They are a direct bolt-in. With the 3 speed trans you have, I would definitely not go above 3.42. I had 3.08 in mine, and swapped in the 3.42. It ran like it had a new engine in it, but hwy RPM's will be above 3000. With 3.73, hwy RPM's could approach 3500.
