I have a 1986 with stock 305. Never had electrical problem till now. Drove car to get alternator replaced and new battery. When job was done the car won't start. Has 12 volts battery is new and good. Have no headlights horn brake lights etc etc car is dead but battery good. What am I missing?? Thank you in advance.

Could be the fusible link or two.
Tell your buddy the same.

have you used a volt meter or continuity tester to see how far you get power? who installed the battery? and have you actually tested the battery? you can have 12V with hardly any Amps

there is 2-3 bigger 10ga wires at the starter that power everything except the starter,,
those wires and the whole car is protected by 2-3 Fusible Links at the starter..
kinda like slow-blow fuses, that just look like smaller wires..

Yes battery was load tested. Perfect it's new.

Fusible Links are at the Starter,
they tie to the Battery Cable Post on the Solenoid, and connect to the red wires ..
some times there in a metal tube that goes past the exhaust,
sometimes they get hot and melt, or get the insulation rubbed off and short-out..

Did you remove the plastic cap from the new battery post before connecting the battery cable?
