I have a 72 with factory air when I move the selection lever from normal to max nothing changes any thoughts

I would see if it has a "high blow relay".....I`m certainly no expert....but I believe they were mounted
in the center of the upper firewall, and once had one out on a mid 70`s pick up and it acted like you describe.
The one listed for your 72 is a "Standard Motor Products" ry12 (without ATC automatic temp control) or ry11 with atc

Check your recirculation door in the right side kick panel, it may be stuck, not getting vacuum in the max position or the vacuum servo motor may be leaking.

i have an 86 thats doing the same thing. could it be the climate control assembly:dontknow:
Yes, it could be your ported vacuum switch, but check the recirculation door for binding and vacuum to the servo motor.
