'81 Elco purchased with 0.30 over 350 and TH350. Has a 650cfm Quickfuel Carb, have TWO questions I could use some input on.

There's no transmission kickdown lever, and it doesn't downshift when asked... it should have some type of kickdown, right?

Also, I'm not familiar with the "actuator" mounted on the front left side of the carb, and what it's function is... pretty sure it's not doing anything. Has one slightly cooked wire leading back to an OE plug, which has 2 slots... 2 green wires leading to one slot, and a brown wire, cut and taped off, coming from the other. Wire from the "actuator" on the carb goes to the 2 green wires. Have not yet tested the green wires for power... so 2nd question is, what is the purpose of the actuator, and what power is it needing? Is it a cold start solenoid, connect to ignition hot?

That solenoid works with the a/c to increase the idle when a/c is on.

It looks like the wire is plugged into the oil sending unit plug where you will have voltage when the key is on. The voltage will not change to this connector when the A/C is turned off and on if it is the oil sending unit and can be checked by listening to the solenoid or using a test light when you turn off and on the A/C and/or ignition switch. They may have put the solenoid wired this way to give extra RPM when running and when you turn off the ignition it will shut off without dieseling (otherwise, the idle screw set to high to give a stable idle speed).

Depending on the transmission, for example the th350 will have a kick down cable that would go from the passenger side front of the transmission up to the carb. If a th400, they use an electric kick down. Hope that helps.

The solenoid is DOA, took it out and put 12v to the connector while grounding the body... nada. Anyone recommend a replacement? I've seen them from $40 to $140 online, there can't be that much difference in them... can there?

No identifying marks or numbers on it...

Do you need the solenoid to increase the idle RPM? If so, any generic A/C solenoid should do what this solenoid is doing assuming it will work with the bracket.

Bought a generic one, fabricated a bracket. Power comes from a/c compressor kicking on... bumps idle back up to 6-700rpm. Sweet!
