What are the step and products to use to paint my rusty driveshaft???
Just sand the driveshaft by hand with some 80 grit paper to get the rust off. Make a nice job of it. You can treat it if you want to with rust converter, but it's not like a driveshaft is made of sheet metal. You can just go forward and paint it with any kind of enamel based paint, and you'll be good to go.

Phosphoric acid at Home Depot ... $16 a gallon

Hey, Man, you are making way too big a deal out of this. Just clean all the rust off that you can. If you want you can prep with some rust stop, they are all made from the same basic stuff. Just go to the local auto parts store or hardware store. Then paint with any paint that you like. Any color you like. Use a brush. It is not like the drive shaft is a feature item. It hardly shows. In 5 to 10 years if it starts to rust again. Well, do it differently the second time around. Most would not even go as far as you have gone. They would have just painted it. Save your worry post for major items.
