I got a 1985 el camino not to long ago and was wondering about the speaker size I know the dash is 3.5" I was wondering if 4" would fit because I'm wanting to but speakers of this brand. http://www.bossaudio.com/main/1306 I was also wanting to get his stereo and this sub woofer. stereo=http://www.bossaudio.com/main/1216 sub woofers=http://www.bossaudio.com/main/1164 all boss brand. I am also wanting to know if I should buy a amp and if so I was wanting to know which one of this brand. http://www.bossaudio.com/main/1130 and I will also need to buy a wiring harness for the 1985 el camino correct? Lastly should I buy those subs and make encloses for them or buy these for under my bench seat instead? Sorry for all the links and questions but any help will be appreciated thanks much. :You_Rock:

i personally would not buy boss. there is a reason all there stuff is inexpensive,it is all like a bic lighter, you know as in disposable. get online and search for reveiws on their stuff, the good reveiws i found were all vendor reveiws so i went to the diff forums and could not really find any good reveiws at all.
if you can afford it and want good quality sound i recommend alpine amps and speakers and subs and have always been partial to kenwood head units. mtx and rockford are allright also.
also remember quality of sound is better than quantity of sound. around here i hear distortion and rattles all the time from the kids with their "big systems" and then my son fires mine up and you get clean crisp highs, deep bass and the little kiddies about s*** themselves.
this is all just mho and i am sure others will chime in with their recommendations but you will be happier in the long run to save and spend more.

If you run those 6 (?) speakers it looks like your unit might not be able to keep up considering it's specs say 50x4 watts. I am no where near being a audio expert but that just doesn't add up.

Depending on what all is in the car that runs on electricity you might also need a higher amp alternator and a beefier battery might be in the works too.

not to confuse you but if your lookin for any quality in sound the dash speakers will never do... most of us put some speakers in the doors 5 1/4 fits perfectly ,, then a couple of 6x9s in some boxes behind the seat is more than enough for sounds.. for subs if thats what you like either tens or twelves in truck boxes fit perfectly in the smugglers box and yes ur gonna need an amp for the subs..

If you are looking for true quality in sound you need tweeters as well as speakers and subs. Although I doubt more then one good sub is really necessary in such a small cab.

I personally favor the kenwood excellon head units with boston tweets and mids with a jl audio 10" sub and jl audio amp(5 channel) for space.ARC audio seems to another clean sounding amp.
I have an Alpine V12 5 channel amp in my 83 and it's real clean but the year model after mine went in the outhouse POS.

this is not a cheap upgrade but my elky is my daily driver and i mostly am alone in it as we drive the wifes car on the one day we both have off work together and i do love my music. with this set-up all my music from sinatra to rap sounds great.
onlinecarstereo is where i have found the best prices and service so look around and see what you can find in your range

I'm more of a pioneer fan myself... My recommendations: Pioneer head unit, Infinity Kappa mids and tweets (Mount your tweets in the factory dash locations. Trust me, you will love the way it sounds!) Skip the rear speaker mounting for now and get a single "10 or "12 woofer from either Infinity (Little expensive) or Pioneer (Much less expensive and sounds almost as good.) For an amp, you cannot go wrong with almost anything from Alpine, pioneer, Infinity, Rockford fosgate or kenwood. This system will cost you less than 1k (On ebay.) and your ears will thank you!

3x5 is all that fits and watch out the low profile on the factory speaker it's the hight's the speaker will fit. i found some pioeneer 2 way coaxial 60 watt 4 ohm type TS-A878 They fit not bad sound. I saw some 80 watt at pep boys but didn't really check them out. When i post the hidden 6x9 behind the seat and the 8 inch sub. with 300 amp punch hidden in the sumgglers box without taking out the spare tire tuesday you'll see. My system crank's. The base shakes the truck and it took me some time to fix all the raddel's you hear with the stereo on.:secret::secret:
