Start by checking ALL the vacuum hoses for cracks and leaks.

It does it all the time. I will try to check vacuum lines only not sure where they are... I dont have anyone that I can have look for me. Unemployed at the moment. I'm gonna try though.

I also need to put my passenger side mirror back on. Guess I have to take off the door panel.

vacuum hoses are everywhere on and to / from the motor,
heres some hi-lited with red..

check the #1 on the top/left side of pic, see if its open ??
that may go to the MAP sensor on the fender well..

take the Air Cleaner off and you'll find several more tied to the carb..
take some more pics, and post them up..
if you find any bad ones, replace them 1 at a time,, don't mix them up..

I had the same issue years back. Stalled unexpectedly when I put it in gear. Idle was erratic. Not what I suspected it to be but I swapped out the cap and rotor and it ran well for years afterward.

Ok I had one come off and not sure where it went and one one of the small black line broke in two. I'm trying to learn the names and probably am over thinking it huh? Not so good at putting pictures on here but I will try again later.

I did go buy two different size hose about 8 ft. Long each. I think I'll need to get another bigger size as well cuz they look a little dry rotted.

2 vacuum leaks will have a big difference on the idle..

as for the pics
you can put them in the showcase, like the others, or make a new showcase,,
then I can move them here to the thread..
or just try the Cut/Paste in here..

cant remember where the big line goes,
maybe to the carb vent, PCV, or Vapor canister,,
all 3 may tie together normally ??
check the Emissions sticker on the fan shroud ??
the multi-port plastic thang with the number on top is the Purge Valve??
I think, cant see it real good..

x2 just tie the hard plastic lines back together with rubber vacuum hose..

as for the carb / fuel leak, lightly try and tighten the screws on top of the carb..
see if any are loose,, and snug them all down together..
