Finally got my engine block off the garage floor,and onto an engine stand.
My current crop of projects all have running motor's at the moment.
Time to build a big block.:)
Starting here with nothing but a bare block and some old cam bearings.
Everything will be new except the crank and maybe the 049 heads.
I'm currently thinking of going with a re ground forged crank.
I believe in the OLD GM>

I really enjoy building the motors...Just about the most satisfaction you can get besides :rolleyes:

If anyone sees some real good deals on parts,I would appreciate a link.
Parts will be slowly accumulated,hopefully at the best possible prices to stay on budget.:rolleyes:

What do you think the stamped # starts with? Should be a plant code letter, followed by 0303 (march third). It looks like a (1), could be a "T" with the top gone. I agree about the 69 Camaro, but it may have been the rare big block 69 Nova. It also was the JF suffix. Good luck with it.

You need to get that block boiled out at an auto machine shop. Using a block that has been laying around and drying out the varnish in the passages ect, isn't good practice. New oil, heat etc can sometimes loosen old sludge & varnish from the internals.
Remove cam bearings & freeze plugs, have it boiled out (tanked), and new cam bearings & brass plugs installed. It's insurance and peace of mind...
And it will look like new cast iron when it's cleaned.

Thanks guys.
The pics take a while to load,and sometimes problems prevent them from working correctly,I'd rather have one photo fail,rather than multiple ones.
I intend to have the block thermally cleaned eventually,just no need at the moment,until I have the major engine parts on hand.
The Engine work will be performed at Federated auto in Painesville Ohio.
I'm guessing they will need all the internals to balance everything.
In no hurry for the build,cost is a main concern.
Waiting and buying each piece at the best possible price really adds up,once you add up the savings each step of the way.
