You need to get that block boiled out at an auto machine shop. Using a block that has been laying around and drying out the varnish in the passages ect, isn't good practice. New oil, heat etc can sometimes loosen old sludge & varnish from the internals.
Remove cam bearings & freeze plugs, have it boiled out (tanked), and new cam bearings & brass plugs installed. It's insurance and peace of mind...
And it will look like new cast iron when it's cleaned.
