I bought a new stop light switch for my '65 El Camino as the old one was loose and since some of the electrical on this car is real mickey mouse like. There was no nuts locking it to the mounting tab that it screws into, but rather, something that looks like it may have been some kind of tabs on the back side that also fits inside of the mounting piece where the switch screws into.

There is a similar stop light switch for sale on eBay that also shows two of those cheapy wire nut looking things that appear to hold the switch in place. Right now the new switch doesn't screw into the mounting tab because that metal piece looks like a couple tabs are broken off or bent way outta place.

Any ideas on correcting this mess?

Thanks in advance since I am posting all kinds of questions here tonight.

I went ahead and tried putting the old switch back in and it fit better than the replacement one. It works fine, I just thought I would put a new one in that looked better and not have paint all over it. So that's my fix for now.
