So my tach has been spinning all the way around when I'm cranking up the car, and when its running it stays on 0. So I pulled it and found it looks charred and was wondering if anyone else had this problem, if that is what's causing it not to work.

The little red and clear part is a zener diode. can be checked very easily, and replaced for a couple of bucks. Might be the cause, but would need to see schematic. Look on line how to check a zener diode with a multimeter. You will have to desolder one end from the circuit.

I used a multimeter and it worked fine. When I hooked a test light to the "Distributor Stud" (the left one) and the light stayed lit. Isn't it supposed to pulse and that translates to RPMs on the tach?:dontknow:
