Here's what you need:

Rubber seals on each side of the tailgate. Installs in seconds, and stops the tailgate rattle. Used them on my '86 with sucessful results. It's about as cheap and easy of a fix as you can find.

So that should help quiet it down? I have a new set already i just am not to the point in resto to instal them. I was hoping that would solve the problem. Thanks for the info. I will unvale the truck soon and everyone can so my years worth of labor.

I split a couple of lengths of heater hose and slid on just like the ones shown. Cost?.. about $2. If one happens to get lost.. I have some extra hose in the shop.

It's funny how some rattles bother a person. My dad lost one of those pieces probably 20 years ago. I bought a replacement from the dealer (receipt is in the stuff with the bill of sale, build sheet, and delivery paperwork) and paid about $16 for it then because the rattle really annoyed him. Since it was still available that was what he wanted. I miss him. Patrick.
