The th400 in my newly acquired '68, shifts hard at 1 - 2, if I don't back off the gas it will chirp the tires every time.
2 - 3 shift is not so noticeable.

Engine is a .030 overbore 400, rebuilt by the previous owner, no idea of the specs, idles smooth so I'm guessing it's pretty stock.

Just had the trans serviced as the car had been sitting for a few years.

Mechanic said it looked very good when he had the pan off.

Nothing obvious to see, but I'm wondering, is the 400 prone to the hard shift, or is this evidence of a shift kit having been installed?

308 gears.

Counted the turns, made the calculation = 308 gears, no posi.

Not too hard to light the passenger side.
205-70x14 tires.

Maybe I'm just used to the '78, but this '68 seems short geared on the highway.

Need that gear vendors OD!

With 3.08s you should be running about 18-1900 on at hiway speeds.
