if i got a procharger for my 350 pushin 4 or 5 pounds would i need a bypass valve or intercooler?
I'm assuming you mean a Blow Off Valve (BOV)? I don't think you need one at that PSI, but an Intercooler always helps lower inlet temps, which can be good for some more power.

BOV are for turbos. Bypass valve is for superchargers.

Adding the valve will help with parasitic loss and might improve part throttle drivability. With that small amount of pressure a big red race valve would be way overkill.

Intercoolers are always nice and will allow you to pulley down slightly as the intercooler will condense the air resulting in less pressure in the carb/plenum.

I am confused by the title of vortech and your use of a procharger, I am assuming a P series procharger? Are you looking to change to a bigger vortech unit?

This catalog by Procharger is great. I learned a lot from it when I was trying to figure out my combo. Page 36 talks about BOV's and when they become necessary (8 psi). Page 26 talks about intercooling.

Read away! http://www.procharger.com/catalogviewer/index.html (Open the "Card Chevy" catalog).

Agreed,I don't think you need a bypass or an intercooler at 4-5 lbs of boost. I had a unit with 6 lbs of boost on an L35 S10 and I called it a "trailer towing" unit as opposed to a performance SC. Instead of going the expense of the intercooler and related plumbing, you may want to go with a slightly smaller SC pulley.

Im not tryin to be the suzy downer of this convo but is a supercharger putting out 5 psi worth it? Im not talking from experience because Iv never drove a forced induction anything lol. Would you see a big boost in power from 5 psi? This is more of a question than anything

I would not bother with anything less than 7-8 boost...lot of money for little gain.
Better Heads, More Compression, and the right Cam would make mort power the old school way.

Or just buy a "crate 502"...That will twist off everything behind it )

Oh yeah, every additional psi is worth it. Example, a well built SBC with 10:1 compression would probably make about 450hp. Now add 5 psi boost, the compression is now almost 14:1 the boost, now you have a 14:1 SBC 400 makin 600-650hp.

PSI is just a measure of restriction. 5psi on a stock 305 will not yield nearly the same increase as 5psi on a 350 with a good head/intake/exhaust combination.

Also the entire area under the curve moves up not just the peak.

I chose to LOWER my peak hp but gained 25hp average from 2500-5200rpm but I roadrace/autox.

And you just went from premium to race fuel lol

Yeah, that was a bad example, LOL!

More like 8:1 compression base and 11:1 under boost so you can still run pump gas.

Ahh gotcha lol. Much better! So a 305 runnin like 8 or 8.5 compression would run 11 or 11.5. Thats not bad. Couldnt you deck the heads and get the same effect though? (not tryin to diss ya)

You can't cut the heads or deck enough to get 3 points or better in compression. Lots of clearance issues would come up as well as water jackets and etc. To run 11 to 1 you have to build for it.

Ahh I see. So youd have to do internal work to get 11:1? Or would a blower do it itself?
