What have you done to your El Camino today!

I'm a member of another forum that has a thread similar to this one. I'd like to start one here. It's been great over there, seeing all the projects other guys are up to every day! Anything goes as long as it's something you've done to your Elky. Pictures are always a plus if possible.

I'll go 1st. Today I took my elky to the shop next door and had my air conditioning fixed. It had a leaky hose. The hose is replaced, the system is charged, and now it's blowing nice and cold!

FINALLY took the time to properly set my rear pinion angle. When I first swapped to the T56 I was working off of jack stands and had no idea just how far off I was. It had a slight driveline vibration when you’d get up around 75 MPH. Now that I have lifts again I finally cleared out enough other projects so that I could spend some time with the El Camino. I’m embarrassed to admit that I had the pinion angle off by almost 3°!

Now it’s properly set and I took a nice cruise on the freeway. I might or might not have cruised along at 125 MPH for a bit. ZERO vibration now. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to get to this issue.
3 degrees? so did it go like this?

I changed out fuel hoses from the tank forward. Two years ago I didn't realize I needed a high pressure hose on a fuel injected application.
My fuel hoses had started deteriorating. I started smelling fuel occasionally, a couple of weeks ago. Last week I saw fuel leaking, so immediate action was required.

Well…. I guess I wasn’t suicidal or homicidal over it like it was a dirty fork. But that 3° DID make the difference between a vibration and no vibration.

I tried to start up the 78 El Camino again today. It turned over well but didn't start. So I went and looked under the hood. I found one of the wires for the Sniper EFI system was unplugged. Then it started and ran great. The wires must have come unplugged when I was working on the wire loom install. I just wanted to start it and see how it ran. I need to finish the plug wire loom, before I take it for a drive.
I made a visit to Pate Swap meet and came back with goodies...including this! 😁

Wow! Those are GOODies!
Not quite as impressive as above, but I picked up a new heater hose as mine had a pinhole leak near the water pump. Got it swapped with a minimum of blood and swearing, which is quite good for me.

Grabbed a thicker exhaust rubber too as the existing one had snapped.

My terminology may be off. The rubber mounting for the tailpipe hanger.

ahhhhh, a vibration isolator doohickey (y)
took it out for a bit of a cruise. so far definitely much happier with the other carb but still not perfect. will likely be bringing it home to stay in a week or so now that the weather is starting to look a lot nicer.

That's the badger! My rear shocks are pretty tired and get a lot of bounce on the back end. Those "vibration isolators" are given a workout.

Finally decided to look into to intermittent charging issues that have come and go since I purchased the EC. Never nbeen left stranded. I had always seen the regulator hiding behind the charcoal canister and just assumed the PO had bypassed or gutted the regulator when the 10Si alternator was installed. Nope. Not sure is there was any ill effect to running a 10Si and an external regulator. But everything seems the same after eliminating the external regulator. Meaning. I am still experiencing some slightly odd readings on the voltage gauge that make me think the alternator is on the way out.

I just replaced all the colored zip ties I could find under the hood with black ones. I also started the 78 El Camino up again to see how it was running. I ran it till it warmed up and it ran great.

External voltage regulators on a GM are realistically nothing more than voltage filters, as evidenced by the grounded cap filter on the outside of that box. The alternator itself should have a built in regulator that's more effective than anything made in China as it regulates the output charging amperage as well as the voltage, according to need.

Came home from work, opened the tailgate and dumped @ 150 gallons of rainwater onto the driveway. I have an elky full bedliner that's not in perfect condition, just perfect enough to be water-tight, which got a bunch of pick'm'up locals in hysterics the one and only time my wife tried to surprise me by taking the truck through the automatic carwash....

Took another stab at this today after dropping the dash to replace the Speedometer that died on my recent 500 mile trip. Found a bad dash ground and a bad body ground. Voltage gauge acted normal on a 40 mile round trip to down and voltage stayed steady.
