It's spring, it's cloudy, it's rainy, and it's raw outside. So I got to thinking about all the 4th gen Elco's up in El Camino Heaven. :(

If you have a reasonably fast 'net connection and Microsoft Windows Media Player, check out this quick picture show. It has a music background, so make sure your speakers are on."

It runs about 5 minutes. Oh yea, sorry if I mistakenly put one of our members El Camino in the slide show.

:( WOW! Thats almost depressing! Once so proud and now they're gone, hopefully to a better place. :( I remember when the Gen. 4's first came out seemed like everyone hated them but me! I loved the new design, told the guys could be worse they could have made them smaller!(sorry Gen. 5 Members) I've just always liked them, I even passed up a 72 for the same money and a little better condition for my 77!

Maverick tailights the worst? how 'bout the one with the lift kit. bogger tires, and full bumper length mudflap complete with reflectors!

Great great video, although depressing, the compositions of the photos where great!

Whenever I see cars like that I imagine when it was new and how proud the 1st owner must have been to have it!

Nice job. The Norman Greenbaum was fitting. The Maverick tail lights on the blue car were the worst.
Looked like tail lights from a Mercury Comet to me...Mavericks had the same tail lights as the Pinto runabouts.

There is another song that might of fit this picture show also. It is by a band called King Crimson, the song is "Dig me". The lyrics go something like this:

----

It's here I sit and rust amid this ruin and rancor like the tire irons
toothy grills and car parts before me...the acid rain floods my
floorboard, burns my pores, and rots my upholstry.. once I was
worshipped, polished magnificently, now I lay in decay by the dirty
angry bay...

I'm ready to leave
I wanna get out of here
I'm ready to ride away
I don't want to die in here
I'm ready to ride

my skin is metallic now, no longer an elegant powder blue... my body
unhinged and sleeping in the jungle of motor block manifolds and metal
relics... what was deluxe becomes debris, I never questioned loyalty,
but this dead end demolishes the dream of an open highway...

I'm ready to leave
I wanna get out of here
I'm ready to ride away
I don't want to die in here
I'm ready to ride.....

dig me...but don't...bury me

---------------

Personally King Crimson is one of my all time favorite bands, but there music isn't for every one, sometimes its soothing, sometimes bazaar, and then there songs can be the most powerful driving songs I’ve ever herd.
anyway..
the lyrics fit ..

Hi Lady Camino,

I'll go off topic for you...

It's King Crimson, from the "Three of a perfect pair" album side 2.

That album, and a couple released near that time, was a transitional period for the band. If you listen to the early work (70’s) through now you’ll see how the band evolved.
The early work, was like a “dark evil version of the band Yes”. The Second configuration is really interesting stuff, and then the double trio configuration broke into some real powerful music. It’s not for everyone.
Some of the time signatures the band works with are simply amazing. For more info see http://www.elephant-talk.com/

Great idea. I used to be a big King Crimson back in my "younger" daze.... 8) I'm starting my picture collection for a "4th Gen Heaven ! Part Deux" and will get that song. If anybody has any links to some neglected and forgotten 4th gen Elco pictures, just send me the URL to jlevitan@holycross.edu.

Thanks!

You might want to listen to it first, it's (as you know being a former "Crim head") not for everyone. some folks here might be,,, well um,, "freaked out" .. It's got a nice melody to the chorus but the main riff is very Adrian Belew-ish/fripp-ish. Very Disconnected but still mechanical, great stuff, fitting for it's topic.
