Well, ive decided to finally jump in on body restoration on my 81. I'll be taking pictures of the whole process so I will keep you updated. So far I have started on the floors and I'll be fixing rust in the bed, quarters and rockers. Then I am going to shoot it black when I'm done. Most if not all that I will be fixing will be new sheets that i will form from scratch, so I guess I am taking the hard route. I just can't bring my self to spend the $$$ on new pans and quarterpanels at such prices. Difficult sections will come from donors. As soon as my wife dumps the data off her camera I'll have some before pictures to show.

So far I almost got the pans done. I had cut out a bad section in the bed above the axel. I will have to almost completly rebuild the rear floors and section that leads up to the bed where the back seat would be if it was as tation wagon. This also means the 2 body mounts back there are rusted out so I will need to address that as well.

Do you have a link. I tried finding just patches for el camino bedfloor with no luck. Depending on price I may just go with my original idea to form it on my sheet metal brake.

Also, in the news. I have quite a bit of the metal patched, 80 percent of the drivers side rear wheel well now has metal, just needs some filling work. 95 % of the front floors are done including a rebuilt body mount. Back bumber was bent so I decided to just get a roll pan so that should be arriving any day now. I plan to shoot paint this summer when it is warm.

Thanx guys, this keeps me motivated. I am on the downslope now. I got all night tonight to wrk on it. The old lady is out of town so I am gonna just go non stop. No 2 hours here and 2 hours there.

I may take pics tonight, I am using a body filler called all metal on top my welds, this filler is water proof so it saves on welding and grinding.
BTW any one have some ideas on an outside paint booth with tarp or construction plastic. I will have to paint outside b/c of attached garage and fumes... safety first. I was thinking pcv and tarp with some of my weights to hold it down. I seem to have forgot all the fort building skill I had when I was younger, but I don't have furniture and lamp post outside to attach stuff to!:yell:

I actually did!! lol atleat bedflor that is.

But with cost and lack of precedent, not too mention potential leaks in smugglers box I decided againts it.

Would be pretty cool though.

Updated, filled in spot on lower cal and drivers rocker,

Glassed over patch work weld on part of completed pans, ran out of glass filler

Have the tailgate amlmost completely stripped, will have to use some filled, just slightly wavy panels, rest of the car will no be taken down to metal, not enough time.

Debating on pulling the windshield, right now no leaks, may just pull trim and mask really good.

Need batteries for my stupid camera!!

Started glassing the rough spots and making the shape of a fender again. Paint came in a few weeks ago. Made the bed panel by hammering flat sheet againts the section I cut out and a piece of steel bar the same pitch as the high spot on the coragated steel.
Glassed over weld on the quilted floor pans. Will be ordering new outer rockers when I get back from the Western Caribbean. Roll pan also showed up so I got alot lined up after vacation.

Western Caribbean? As in water....trees? (forget the sand....New Mexico has sand...not impressed with it in my teeth) I was almost proud of your work Magus until I read the Caribbean part of your post. Now I am jealous and grumpy (situation normal for me). However, I am proud of your work and effort anyway! Great job so far and post some photos.....just not of any island scene. LOL

WoW!!
You have a lot of work ahead of you. I have your Elky's twin in my garage. I've completely strippet it it sign down with rivits on the passenger side and a stop sign on the drivers side. they make for good garage art. Keep on working man I feel for you. I've had mine for going on one year now and ended up spending my Elky money on my sons 95 Camero. T hat's ok cause I have my whole life to get it done. And good luck on the paint booth. If you use 1" pvc schedule 40 it will hold up better and they make all kinds of parts at your local Lowe's. Just have fun.:You_Rock:

Well I finally finished what I started this project with (header and exhaust install)
I wanted and needed to hear it run after almost a year of sitting. I was a little nervous considering the recent battle with the lawn mower I had with carb problems.
FIRED RIGHT UP!!!
Sounds like a demon with headers 2.5 pipes (4 ft long) to thrush mufflers on each side. I have half a mind to throw my seat in and take it for a drag bare metal and all.

BTW my roll pan looks really nice, even if my car is flat marron and the pan is white with no tailights yet lol.

Your coming along just fine.. I honestly thought it looked good when i just clicked through on your photo album.. I think I would have just repaired the floor and bed until I could have gotten around to the quarter.. What color paint are you doin to go with?
