Just brought this one home with the idea of turning it into a NHRA Stock Eliminator ride. After much thought I just could'nt bring myself to install a cage into such a clean and solid little truck, so I'm headed in another direction with it.

I've owned three other Camino's over the years ('71, '72, '65)...the '65 I really miss as it was probably the most fun daily driver I have ever owned. This one will be spiffed up and driven...maybe not daily, but it will be used with trips to the drag strip from time to time. Currently a 283 w/4-speed and 12-bolt w/3.73 Auburn locker. Paint is an older version of about 10 years age the best I can gather...while still in decent shape I just can't describe the color, so that will be the first order of business.

Tentative schedule:

paint
suspension/brake upgrades
396/350 upgrade
possible 5-speed manual

call them a Barn-do-minium or a Barn-do, Condo-barn, Shop-do, man-cave
thats the way to do it.. i just call it normal..

speeking of internet,
im test driving a ATT Homebase now, its a cellular home phone and internet
with battery backup, just like a hotspot but bigger and cheaper..
and its purty fast for wifi or ethernet over celluler service,
50-60Mbps download 25 up,, thats about 5X faster than the verizun hotspot i had..

youll have to look it up yourself on the net and order it,
its like the clowns that know everything at the ATT store dont even about it..
everything takes a new plan and a 2yr contract, that seems to be the BS most of the time,
talk to a different person get a different answer everytime..

Figured it was time for some kind of update. The '67 has a new place to sleep when not going down the track...

Finally purchased 5.6 acres yesterday and plans are to build a 40x60 metal/pole barn w/living quarters. It will house a two-post lift and assorted equipment to support my habits during retirement. Picked up a couple of '65's to tinker with when not racing.

The blue truck came out of AZ while the red one from Colorado via NY.

Sorry folks...life got in the way and I have not been on the site in quiet a spell. Finally finished my building and I retired the first of this year. You are all probably used to my wild swings by now...I decided I had enough of the racing bug and quit late 2019. The El Camino is finally going back on the street where I can still enjoy it. Slowly removing race parts and replacing them with suitable components.

Thanks - The '67 is the only remaining El Camino in the stable now. I've put a new Detroit Locker in the diff with 3.55 gear. Could'nt talk myself into the LS swap considering all the labor that would entail, so I opted to use a Gen 1 383 I had on hand. It is really too much compression for street duty, but I did a cam swap and will tweak the timing...we'll see how it goes. Also using a TH350 so everything would bolt right in.

Fired it this morning and took it down the road and back. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the exhaust note is at idle and cruising...the mufflers are Flowmaster FX series. It does have a bark when tromped on. Looks like I can go ahead and put the hood back on. Still waiting on the front sway bar.
